10 Times Wrestlers Were Too Silly For Their Own Good
6. AJ Styles
From the moment he debuted in the 2016 Royal Rumble match, AJ Styles made an impact (no pun intended) on WWE fans. After a couple of quick hiccups, such as coming up short during his first WrestleMania match, he positioned himself in the main event picture.
Although a familiar sight in both the WWE World and Universal Championship scenes, Style has plateaued in his role as the goofy-but-skillful technician, falling short of a higher status enjoyed by the likes of The Rock or even John Cena.
'The Phenomenal One' handles each feud professionally, whether that means being deadly serious or lighthearted. He's gone on to have so many remarkable matches that, when someone is paired with Styles, fans immediately assume it's going to be good.
What keeps him away from reaching a similar status to that of a Stone Cold might be his silly-ass demeanor. Whether the good or bad guy, he tends to favor a more humorous approach to his work, often making dad-joke level jibes in and out of the ring. Paired up with the giant, stoic Omos, the absurdity has reached new heights with the giant carrying away 'The Face that Runs the Place' and ridiculous banter.
Having a great sense of humor has done wonders for past performers, but even 'The Great One's' wisecracks were laced with threats. On the other hand, Styles' interactions paint him as a dummy who perhaps doesn't care what happens to him as he is complacent with his spot on the card.
