10 Times Wrestlers Won Matches By Accident
3. Where's That Referee?
The 17 June 2011 episode of SmackDown featured a six-man tag team that saw Cody Rhodes team with Ted DiBiase and Wade Barrett to take on Daniel Bryan, Ezekiel Jackson, and Sin Cara. It was the show's opening contest, and WWE entrusted the superstars with a decent amount of time to produce an entertaining match for the fans.
Ezekiel Jackson stood his ground against the heels, but once Sin Cara tagged in, the heels gained the advantage despite the high-flyer's attempts. Sin Cara somehow dragged himself to give the hot tag to Daniel Bryan, who made quick work of Ted DiBiase.
Bryan delivered one of his routine running corner dropkicks on DiBiase and had him down for the pin. The original plan was for DiBiase to kick out at two, which he did, but the referee ignored it and completed the three count. Daniel Bryan looked confused, and so did Jackson and Sin Cara, and the referee had to signal them to come inside the ring and celebrate the victory.
Cody Rhodes at Starrcast '18 mentioned that they were four minutes into the match when the botch took place, but it had gone longer than that. He also stated that DiBiase didn't kick out, but the latter did get his shoulders up on time, but the referee failed to notice. As for the "Where's that referee? He was trying to f*** on me" part, DiBiase claimed that Rhodes made that up, and it's still unclear what went on behind the screens.
