10 Times Wrestlers Worked Their Way Into A Job
1. Drake Maverick (WWE)
Drake Maverick never really had a chance to wrestle in WWE. His first couple of years in the company were spent as the 205 Live General Manager and then the manager of AOP. The only in-ring action we saw from him was the odd match on NXT or 205 Live, so it was no surprise when the company decided Maverick just wasn't good enough to keep around.
That's when Maverick took to social media and cut one of the most impassioned and heartfelt promos that had been seen in the wrestling business for quite some time. WWE management saw this and thought, "Oh crap, maybe we could use him after all."
He was already booked to be in the upcoming Cruiserweight Title Tournament, so they decided to give him one last shot to prove his worth, allowing him the opportunity that most never get, the opportunity to complete his unfinished business. Over the next month, Maverick took the brass ring above him, pulled it down, and made a dinner table out of it. He was the most endearing face that had come across the promotion since Daniel Bryan in 2014. As a result, Triple H was convinced and happily proven wrong. He proceeded to present Maverick with a brand new multi-year contract and an apology. Hopefully, the Drake Maverick situation might set a precedent for future released stars to be given a second chance.
