The Champion's Advantage has always been a disadvantage to every challenger. Unless there's a special stipulation involved, a champion can lose the match via disqualification but still keep the title around his waist. The title holders never shied away from using this rule to their advantage, but none did it better than Ric Flair and Greg Valentine did during their reign as the NWA World Tag Team Champions.

Flair and Valentine won the titles for the second time in October 1977 and held on to them for 157 days. Throughout their reign, the duo retained their titles by either causing the disqualifications themselves or by pushing their opponents to do so.

They did it one last time during their title defense against Ricky Steamboat and Paul Jones at an NWA event on 4 April 1978. Following this incident, NWA management decided enough was enough and stripped Ric Flair and Greg Valentine of the tag team titles for continuously causing disqualifications.

The duo continued to team until April 1979 before going their separate ways. However, Valentine returned to NWA in December 1979 following a brief stint with WWE and NJPW and started feuding with his old partner.
