10 Times Wrestling Championships Were Vacated For Bizarre Reasons
5. Oklahoma Vacates The WCW Cruiserweight Championship For Exceeding The Weight Limit
Before Vince Russo would book himself to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, he had a test run with his trusted cohort Ed Ferrera, who went by the on-screen name Oklahoma with a gimmick parodying legendary commentator Jim Ross.
Ferrera was already generating legitimate heat for mimicking Jim Ross' Bell's Palsy condition, and he kicked it up a notch by winning the WCW World Cruiserweight Championship. He started feuding with Madusa in January 2000, who became the first female wrestler to hold the championship.
Madusa retained the title against Oklahoma in an Evening Gown match on the 12 January 2000 episode of Thunder, but lost it to him the following Sunday at the WCW Souled Out PPV. However, the reign didn't last long as Oklamoha vacated the title on the following episode of Thunder because he had nothing else to accomplish and weighed 260 pounds, which is way over the Cruiserweight weight limit.
WCW then held a tournament to crown a new champion, and The Artist/ Prince Iaukea defeated Lash LeRoux in the final at SuperBrawl 2000 to win the title.
