10 Times Wrestling Companies Had To Apologise To Fans
8. The NWA Responds To Jim Cornette Backlash
Jim Cornette is as opinion-splitting a wrestling personality as there is.
Corny is one of the all-time great managers of the business, is a true encyclopaedia of knowledge when it comes to being a historian of the sport, is brilliant at the commentary desk and is a phenomenal storyteller. The thing is, Jim Cornette is often Jim Cornette's own worst enemy.
These days, Cornette can usually be found lambasting AEW or showing his disdain for women's wrestling on his two weekly podcasts. But for a cup of coffee, Jim was back on a weekly wrestling broadcast as part of the initial episodes of NWA Powerrr in 2019.
Given his history with those three letters, Cornette and Billy Corgan's resurrected National Wrestling Alliance made for a natural fit. And for Corny, he was perfect on the call for Powerrr, bringing a familiar voice to the product and using his wealth of experience to hammer home the stories being told inside the ring. Then though, Cornette made a remark during a Nick Aldis vs. Trevor Murdoch contest that will not be repeated here.
The NWA promptly removed that episode of Powerrr from YouTube while they edited out the comment, then issued a statement apologising for Cornette's remarks. As for James E., he quit the promotion as a result of this.
