10 Times WWE Did Exactly What The Wrestlers DIDN'T Want
8. Chyna In The Late '90s And Early '00s
Chyna broke barriers and shattered glass ceilings with just about every step she took in the WWE (or WWF rather). The 9th Wonder of the World helped push the envelope for what was possible for women inside a Vince McMahon-controlled ring. However, that doesn’t mean she got everything she wanted in return for her efforts.
Backstage rumours point to how she simply didn’t fancy being in the women’s division. Whispers say Chyna thought she was bigger than the entire women’s roster and that she deserved better competition. While this is certainly no rib on the wrestlers themselves, given the state of women’s wrestling in the WWF at the time, it’s kind of hard to argue otherwise.
Not just satisfied with getting to face the top male superstars, Chyna also wanted to be paid similarly to them.
As you can imagine management weren’t keen on playing ball with her demands. This would signal the beginning of the end for Chyna’s career in the WWF. Eventually it was all the real life controversy surrounding her, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon that became the straw which broke her WWF run.
