10 Times WWE Disrespected Rey Mysterio

2. The Handling Of The Dominik Storyline

When WWE started running a programme between the ultra-talented Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio in mid-2005, fans rejoiced. The two were magic together in the ring and now, with the backing of the creative team, their rivalry had the opportunity to reach its potential. Things started off well enough with a couple of great matches at WrestleMania 21, at Judgement Day and on Smackdown. Then, in the buildup to their Great American Bash match, Eddie insinuated that he knew a secret about Rey and Rey's son Dominick and, if he beat Rey at the PPV he would reveal it to the world. Eddie lost the match but, in classic fashion, WWE reneged on the stipulation and Eddie talked anyway: he said he was the real father of Dominick and had filled in for Mysterio in the bedroom when Rey was shooting blanks. Yikes. As if that and the subsequent appearances of Rey and Eddie's real-life families on TV weren't distasteful enough, WWE added a special stipulation to their next big PPV match. Rey and Eddie clashed in a ladder match at SummerSlam with the custody of Dominick on the line. It was pretty distasteful, even by WWE's standards. Amazingly, it was Eddie and Rey's idea to add a soap opera element to their feud but it is doubtful that this is what they had in mind when they pitched it to management.
