On August 30th 2009 WWE announced via WWE.com that Rey Mysterio had been suspended for thirty days after failing a wellness test. This came at a very bad time for Mysterio, who was the current Intercontinental Champion and was having one of his best years ever inside the squared circle. Mysterio dropped the strap to John Morrison at the Smackdown taping and began serving his suspension. But he wasn't happy about it. Mysteiro gave an interview to Mexican newspaper The Record where he claimed his innocence and said that WWE had given him less than 24 hours to provide a prescription, while Rey was on vacation. He clearly felt he was being disrespected and was offended by being slapped with a suspension when he had a valid prescription which WWE had refused to accept, even though it was valid, because it was past the deadline. Rey was suspended for 60 days in April 2012 for his second wellness failure.
