10 Times WWE Dropped The Ball With Wade Barrett

4. Jobbed To Neville As A Substitute For Daniel Bryan

In the previous entry, it was noted that Wade Barrett defeated Dolph Ziggler in January, 2015 to win the WWE Intercontinental Title. He'd hold the belt for a few months before dropping it to Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 31. Hopes were high that Bryan could do what a string of previous champions had been unable to, actually make the title worthwhile again. Sadly, injuries would put paid to those wishes. Bryan was scheduled to defend the Intercontinental gold against Barrett at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view on April 26 of that year. Unfortunately due to his health problems, the match had to be canned by management. Barrett must have been disappointed, because a scrap against someone as esteemed as Bryan would have surely received some decent time on the show. As a replacement, Neville was installed as Wade's opponent. There was just one problem, the bout took place on the 'Kick Off' pre-show. Topping his woes off, Barrett was booked to lose to his fellow countryman. Within 10 minutes, he was staring at the ceiling for Neville, and it was clear his career was going nowhere. What a rotten substitute for a title match.
