10 Times WWE Failed To Pass The Torch

7. Triple H To Seth Rollins (WrestleMania 33)

Had Seth Rollins' knee not completely blown out in the lead up to WrestleMania 32, you have to imagine that he could have been the star trying to take down 'The Cerebral Assassin' at that year's legendary event.

That wasn't to be and instead Rollins' feud with Triple H finally began to unfold after he was screwed out of a Universal title opportunity at the hands of 'The Game' in 2016.

The slow burn would eventually really catch fire after the 2017 Royal Rumble and Rollins found himself battling with his former mentor on a weekly basis in the lead up to 'Mania 33. The match was even made into an unsanctioned one in order for Rollins to not have to be medically cleared to compete, after re-injuring his knee in the build-up.

This entire programme had been formulated with the endgame of Rollins being turned into one of WWE's signature flag-bearers in mind and in taking down 'The King of Kings' (much like Roman Reigns) McMahon fully expected this scalp to be the symbolic launch pad for 'The Architect'.

Unfortunately, it didn't really work out that way and Rollins subsequently meandered around the card with battles against Samoa Joe and Bray Wyatt, before reforming The Shield and eventually winding up with Jason Jordan as a co-tag champion.

What should have been another Triple H passing of the torch moment, sadly turned into one more false dawn.
