10 Times WWE Fans Saw It Coming But Still Lost Their Minds
3. 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin Wins The Big One (WrestleMania XIV)
In 1998, Shawn Michaels' time atop the WWE ladder was coming to an end after his back had been severely injured in a casket match vs. The Undertaker earlier that year. His WWF title match against the nuclear hot 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin at WrestleMania XIV would act as the perfect passing of the torch moment and fans were fully expecting the 'Rattlesnake' to walk out of the arena as the new standard bearer once the night had reached its climax.
Yet, despite that confidence in the eventual result, fans still had to factor in one unpredictable variable on the night... the champ himself.
'The Heartbreak Kid' - at that point at least - wasn't exactly known as a guy who was easy to work with and a swerve still felt like a realistic possibility on that fateful evening.
However, thanks to The Undertaker getting in HBK's head before the match, Michaels eventually did the honours and the audience lost their minds at the sight of the star they fully expected to be crowned the new face of the company getting his arm raised by a turncoat Mike Tyson in the main event.
