2. Becky Lynch Wins The Royal Rumble (Royal Rumble 2019)
Despite the fact that she walked into the 2019 Royal Rumble PPV as the SmackDown Live women's champion, did anyone ever seriously think that Becky Lynch would be strutting out of that event without a WrestleMania main event spot in the bag?
Lynch was the hottest property in the company and the only match the entire WWE Universe wanted/needed to see go down on the Grandest Stage that year involved 'The Man' and 'The Baddest Woman on the Planet' Ronda Rousey going at it for a belt.
A newly p*ssed off Rousey definitely wasn't going to turn up in the titular match and Lynch's character could have quite easily entered the Rumble match as the blue brand's champ before demanding a winner-takes-all match at 'Mania if she was to win. Would you have batted an eye-lid?
She would lose her title to Asuka early in the night and therefore had a more plausible reason to enter the match in the end. She then went on to win the whole thing because of course she did.
If Charlotte Flair had instead earned the iconic victory you'd have experienced a backlash, and were there really any other realistic contenders?
Lynch and Rousey was always going to happen and this was the most interesting way of getting there.
Predictable? You betcha. Crowd pleasing? Undoubtedly.
