10 Times WWE Found It Hard To Say Goodbye

1. 'Macho Man' Randy Savage

At one point, Vince McMahon was Randy Savage's number one fan, but once Macho Man decided to split WWE, it was as though he was blacklisted by the company, rarely to be mentioned again.

Leading up to 1994, Savage was the color commentator alongside McMahon, but the flamboyant wrestler wasn't quite content with the position. He admitted he wanted to announce one day, but at the time, he felt he had more gas in the tank as an in-ring performer. As his contract was set to expire, the boss expected his loyal employee to resign. He even put Savage on the cover of their upcoming WWF Magazine. When the fall rolled around, Savage signed with rival company WCW instead.

At first, McMahon had only nice things to say, but quickly their relationship fell apart. Between Savage promising to stay and leaving and taking the Slim Jim sponsorship with him, WWE no longer desired to bring back the legend. Whenever someone brought up his name, McMahon was rumored to get "weird and angry."

Gene Okerlund revealed it wasn't just WWE being stubborn. Fans wanted to know why the Macho Man was snubbed from the Hall of Fame, but he argued it was Savage who rejected the offers. Whereas Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, and Steve Austin all did McMahon wrong and returned, Savage never did. Unfortunately, it wasn't until the around of his passing that WWE finally recognized his contributions again.
