10 Times WWE Gave Us Something Awesome (...And Immediately RUINED It)
6. Hell In A Cell
This probs won't be popular, but here goes.
Hell In A Cell was reportedly the brainchild of one Jim Cornette. He was the one who suggested sticking a roof on a mesh cage (like the Last Battle of Atlanta) and giving workers some room at ringside to operate. To Cornette, it made perfect sense that wrestlers could still tangle outside the ring but not be able to escape the cage.
The WWF debuted HIAC in October 1997 for a match between The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels. It was excellent, and it's not that Kane's own debut spoiled things but...he walked out and ripped the door clean off this seemingly impenetrable cage. Huh?
Obviously, that was a historic moment. It didn't really do much to present Hell In A Cell as some steel prison workers could never escape once locked in though. Keep in mind, this happened during the bout's very first appearance! That was certainly a brave call.
