10 Times WWE Got "The Guy" Wrong

5. Damian Priest

Similarly to the aforementioned Jinder Mahal, by all accounts Damian Priest is a top bloke in real-life.

But a top guy? The last few months point to that just not being the case, sadly.

Again, Priest can certainly produce in-between the ropes, and has been a little unfortunate of late in his big matches - almost snapping his leg in two at Clash at the Castle and experiencing a pin-fall botch at Money in the Bank - but his week-to-week work as Raw's World champion hasn't really set pulses racing since cashing in at WrestleMania 40.

While certainly a likeable enough talent, he doesn't really have that megastar aura. His delivery on the stick is a bit tedious. The feud of the year that is CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre has made anything Priest has been doing seem immediately less interesting by comparison. Overall, he's just generally struggled to carry the show as its apparent top player in the same way Seth Rollins or Cody Rhodes did throughout 2023.

Triple H definitely has a soft spot for the Judgment Day man, and was likely hoping that the World title would help elevate his NXT student to the level of bona fide main eventer.

But it's not really worked out, and a GUNTHER victory at SummerSlam feels somewhat inevitable at this stage.
