10 Times WWE Got "The Guy" Wrong

Many moons before really getting a kick out of a piece of purple headwear, Jake Hager arrived in WWE as a potential new "guy" the company were very much high on.

It wasn't too hard to see why.

Here was another talent with a strong amateur wrestling background who had a decent look about him and was relatively young - but he was still a bit of a work in progress, and that much was clear when WWE decided to pull the trigger on him as their new top champ on SmackDown back in 2010.

Fresh off of winning the Money in the Bank ladder match at WrestleMania XXVI, a then-Jack Swagger cashed in on Chris Jericho to lift the World Heavyweight Championship...and that was probably the peak of the run right there.

Sure, he'd pick up a few victories over the likes of Jericho, Edge, and Randy Orton, but when stood opposite those names and the likes of John Cena over on Raw, Swagger didn't feel like the next big thing - he looked inferior.

The uncharismatic star's promos were bland, the matches were just there really, and no one was crying out for another run with the big gold belt in the wake of him dropping it in a Fatal Four-Way match at the titular PLE.
