10 Times WWE Got "The Guy" Wrong

It's hard to argue that Rob Van Dam's peerless talent wasn't deserving of a place at the top of the card.

Then again, it's also hard to argue that the experiment which saw him become WWE and ECW Champion in mid-2006 wasn't a failure, given that the company was forced into stripping him both belts not a month after he won them when he found himself in trouble with the law.

To be fair, that touchstone moment in New York's Hammerstein Ballroom was - and still is - enough to convince most of us that RVD's brush with the main event was worthwhile.

It's just, when you look at the damp squib of a reign that followed, you can't really escape the conclusion that he wasn't up to the task of filling John Cena's considerable (and uber-professional) shoes.
