10 Times WWE Got "The Guy" Wrong
3. Diesel
Any half-decent wrestling historian will be able to tell you that WWE was going through a rough patch in the mid-1990s. Big-spending WCW was beginning to emerge across town, and Vince McMahon had yet to figure out that sex and violence sells. It was the calm before the storm, basically.
So pickings were slim, world champion-wise, and with Shawn Michaels still to begin his ascent towards the main event, it was left to his one-time bodyguard Diesel to lead the company instead.
And lead the company he did. For more than a year, in fact, 'Big Sexy' was the WWE Champion, yet his matches were nearly always forgettable, outside of his WrestleMania encounter with HBK.
Nobody can deny Nash's star-power, but there's a reason he mostly played second fiddle to Hogan after he jumped ship.
