Carmella came into her own across the almost year-long run she had with the Money in the Bank case to the extent that by the time she toppled Charlotte Flair, there was considerable fanfare for her - but her Money in the Bank victory should've come a year later.

In 2017, for the inaugural women's MITB match, WWE needed an established veteran for the role. Carmella had barely been on the main roster for a year and wasn't fit for the role. She needed that extra bit of time to come into her own without the briefcase because dear reader, cast your mind back to 2018 and tell a tale surrounding her reign as SmackDown Women's Champion that wasn't the cash-in match.

You can't. It was drab crap.

Someone like Becky Lynch would've proven a more dependable and commanding inaugural Miss Money in the Bank. Like Edge as the first Mr Money in the Bank, you believed that, regardless of if John Cena was WWE Champion or Daivari was, Edge was going to dethrone them. The briefcase helped elevate him up a level in the same way that it could've helped Becky Lynch, who was still struggling to find her footing with the guileless 'Lass Kicker' schtick.
