10 Times WWE Got The Royal Rumble Main Event Wrong
4. Royal Rumble 1999
No-one can have any complaints about the match-up which headlined WrestleMania XV. The Rock versus Steve Austin was the feud that defined the Attitude Era, and a fitting headline fight for the Grandest Stage of Them All.
How we got there, though, was perhaps a little questionable - at least as pertains to Vince McMahon, a 53-year-old businessman whose experience in the ring mainly consisted of him being stunnered once or twice, winning the Royal Rumble.
We get it: it's wrestling, and things aren't to be taken too seriously. Vince was an excellent character, and the yin to Stone Cold's yang; it made for an interesting twist on their relationship, and presumably had fans eager to tune into Raw the next night. But WCW got absolutely pelted for daring to put its biggest prize on the arm of civilians like David Arquette and Vince Russo, decisions that were said to have destroyed much of its credibility as a major wrestling promotion.
The WWE chairman may have bigger biceps than either of them, but this really isn't all that different.
