10 Times WWE Hit The Mainstream In 2014

2. CM Punk Walks Out

CM Punk made waves a few years ago when he took a seat at the top of the ramp and declared in no uncertain terms that he was unhappy working for WWE, and he was leaving when his contract expired. While that eventually didn€™t happen right away, by late-January last year, Punk had finally had enough of WWE and their treatment of him, and he left. For months, speculation swirled about just what it was that made Punk quit, with many citing a proposed match against Triple H at WrestleMania being the straw that broke the camel€™s back. Other theories included a confluence of injuries, or a general disgruntlement with how the organization treats its wrestlers. In the end, it ended up being a mixture of everything as on Thanksgiving, Punk€™s long-time best friend Colt Cabana released an incendiary tell-all episode of his podcast The Art of Wrestling. Over the course of two episodes, Punk reveals exactly what it was that he was sick of dealing with, and made a valid case for walking out which made even his harshest critics rethink their opinions of him. It didn€™t end there as a week later, Vince McMahon appeared on a live edition of €œStone Cold€ Steve Austin€™s podcast, broadcast on WWE Network. During that interview McMahon addressed the Punk situation directly, apologising for what he called miscommunication between departments, and stated that there€™s nothing stopping the two having a working relationship in the future.
