10 Times WWE Introduced Something Cool (Then Panicked And Took It Away)
1. Ambrose Asylum Match
So, you either loved this match or hated it with every fibre of your being.
Either way, we only ever got one iteration of it and let's be honest, it was a lot cooler - at least in theory - than any other match type that had been introduced over the last couple of years.
WWE's Ambrose Asylum involved a variation of weapons being hung from the top of a steel cage. This meant that escape was impossible and those weapons could be used to achieve either a pin-fall or submission victory.
The match between Dean Ambrose and Chris Jericho at Extreme Rules 2016 didn't lean into its extreme potential enough and despite Chris Jericho's gruesome thumbtack bump, the whole thing felt like a bit of a missed opportunity.
However, instead of trying to re-introduce the match further down the line in a different context and allowing an alternative mix of superstars to go at it inside of the unique structure, WWE did what they always do.
If it doesn't work once, panic and lock it away forever.
Just imagine for a second if you had this type of match going down on an NXT show, with Finn Bálor and Tommaso Ciampa trying to brutalise each other with this delightful selection of tools hanging from the sky - and all inside of a steel cage.
Get it done, Triple H.
