10 Times WWE Legends Got Squashed

8. Goldberg (Vs. Braun Strowman - WrestleMania 36)

Poor Braun. Even his victories are tainted.

This match wasn't actually meant to happen. The original plan was for Goldberg to defend the Universal Title against Roman Reigns, but then the pandemic hit and Roman understandably chose to stay at home to protect himself and his family from the virus. So Braun looked like an understudy even before he set foot in the ring.

This wasn't the only thing working against him. WWE had badly mishandled his character, portraying the supposed Monster Among Men as the ultimate choke artist. This was his seventh crack at the championship, his previous six attempts all ending in dismal failure (including one especially humiliating defeat at the hands of Brock Lesnar where he looked totally out of his league against the beast). Lex Luger only needed two failed shots at the belt to be seen as a loser, so Strowman's half-dozen failed attempts completely destroyed any aura he once had.

Oh, the match itself? It was literally eight finishing moves back to back. Four Spears, four Powerslams, new champion. We know that sounds like a dull, uninspired way to describe a top title changing hands at WrestleMania, but it's exactly how we felt watching it happen.
