10 Times WWE Legends Got Squashed
7. John Cena (Vs. Brock Lesnar - SummerSlam 2014)
Famous wrestling journalist Thomas Hobbes once described squash matches as "Nasty, brutish and short" (citation needed). John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam managed two of the three: it was nasty, it was brutish, but it was not short.
John Cena suffered the kind of drawn-out, one-sided beatdown that wouldn't be seen again until Roman Reign's mauling of Jey Uso at this year's Clash of Champions. As brilliantly executed as the latter was, it's still the former that sticks out most in our minds. All due respect to Jey Uso, but Brock Lesnar wasn't pummeling a tag team wrestler undergoing his first singles push. He was annihilating John Cena, the undisputed no.1 star in the company and the man whose entire persona was based on overcoming the odds and beating the bad guys. But there was no fairytale ending here. Instead, SuperCena finally ran into his Kryptonite as Brock Lesnar battered him from pillar to post, subjecting the then-champion to sixteen German Suplexes.
Depending on which side of the "Let's go Cena/Cena sucks" divide you fall on, the main event of SummerSlam 2014 was either cathartic or horrifying. Either way, it deserves its place in wrestling folklore as the moment the Champ became the first resident of Suplex City.
