4. Randy Orton Disrespects The Memory Of Eddie Guerrero

Following Eddie Guerrero’s passing in late 2005, Eddie’s close friend Rey Mysterio would often pay tribute to Eddie during his matches and interviews, wearing an armband featuring Eddie’s initials, adopting the Frog Splash as a finisher, and pointing up to the heaven’s to reference his deceased friend. Nothing wrong with that.

Enter Randy Orton. After Mysterio won the 2006 Royal Rumble, Orton did his very best to antagonise Rey, attempting to goad him into putting his WrestleMania title shot on the line in order to get his hands on Orton. Ordinarily, this would take the form of sneak attacks, interference, or good old-fashioned insults. It was decided that this wasn’t enough for The Viper, however, and so in one infamous promo, Orton declared that Mysterio’s act of pointing to the heavens was mistaken, because “Eddie’s not in heaven… Eddie’s down there, IN HELL!”

No doubt several members of the roster, who were close friends of Eddie’s, were outraged at this exploitation, but they could do nothing about it. A man with a wife and children had died, and WWE saw fit to use this fact in a wrestling storyline to further a character. To say this was tasteless is an understatement.
