It wasn't the fault of the WCW talents of the time, but the WCW Invasion of the World Wrestling Federation fell well short of what many were expecting when looking at the dream prospect of WWF vs. WCW.

For years, fans had salivated at the possibilities of seeing Goldberg, Sting, the nWo, Diamond Dallas Page, Scott Steiner, Booker T and more tangling with the likes of 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin, The Rock, Undertaker, Kane and D-Generation X.

Once Vince McMahon purchased WCW, that dream started to become not quite as far fetched as once thought. That is, until the penny dropped that the majority of those major WCW names would not be heading to New York.

Given the huge Time Warner deals that the top WCW talent had, it meant that many of them sat out the WCW Invasion. Booker T and DDP were front-and-centre in leading the WCW charge against WWF, and they were joined by impressive talents such as Lance Storm, Chris Kanyon and Shane Helms - but those invading WCW names were never going to feel as big a threat as their former peers who were being paid excessive amounts to sit at home.

By the time this storyline concluded, ECW had been added to WCW to form the Alliance, and there was only one WCW name - Booker T - involved in the winner-takes-all Alliance vs. Team WWF battle that took place at the 2001 Survivor Series.
