10 Times WWE Saddled Wrestlers With HORRENDOUS Names

6. The Goon

Really, WWE in the early '90s boasts an almost endless list of wrestlers with bad names and worse gimmicks (The Gobbledy Gooker, anyone?), but we’ve gone with The Goon, whose name flops not just because it doesn’t translate overseas (a “goon” being a hockey team’s designated tough guy brawler), but because even the WWE powers of the day realised how stupid this was, scrapping it almost immediately.

Journeyman wrestler Bill Irwin portrayed The Goon for a few months in the heady days of 1996, appearing before disinterested fans primarily on the company’s third tier TV show. No one, not even Bill Irwin, was remotely into this character, and before long he was sent packing to find work in another league. You simply cannot imagine a conversation in which someone tells you their favourite wrestler is a bloke called “The Goon”. It’s enough to put you off being a wrestling fan.

The Goon, impressively, has a WrestleMania appearance to his name, taking part in 2001’s gimmick battle royale, the participants of which could easily fill another two editions of this list.
