10 Times WWE Saddled Wrestlers With HORRENDOUS Names
5. The Blue Blazer
Every wrestling fan is all too familiar with the tragedy of Owen Hart, who fell to his death in at Over the Edge '99. It would be unfair to blame the Blue Blazer gimmick for his untimely passing, but the costume and name he was asked to adopt at the end of his career is a cruel example of how badly the WWE at times mismanaged his talents.
Hart came to WWE in this guise in the late '80s. In those days especially, McMahon had no idea how to utilise the smaller wrestlers, so a goofy costume gimmick was devised to exploit Owen’s high flying abilities. It wasn’t ideal, but he made it work, and in due course was putting on incredible matches, like WrestleMania X’s opener, under his own name. Over time, the creative team ran out of ideas for Owen, and so in 1999 he found himself above a ring in a harness before his final plummet.
The gimmick in which he passed away is ultimately unimportant, and yet it adds to the indignity of a career that could have been so better served that this is the WWE Universe’s final memory of the man.
