10 Times WWE Stars Broke Kayfabe With REAL Emotions

5. The Undertaker - Super Showdown 2019

For 30 years, Mark Calaway had been fiercely protective of the Undertaker's mythos and image. Until the final few years of his career, he rarely, if at all, broke character for public appearances. It's complete dedication to a character that will go down in history as one of the greatest in sports entertainment, no matter what he did in those final years to destroy that image (and continues to do now through his podcast).

Following the breaking of the Streak, Undertaker sought to add one more great match before hanging up his boots, which resulted in him diminishing his reputation with some awful matches in Saudi Arabia, with his match against Goldberg being the undisputed nadir.

At Super Showdown 2019, Goldberg concussed himself early and was incapable of carrying his end for the remainder. Undertaker did his best to pick up the pieces - but not before nearly breaking his neck taking a botched Jackhammer from Big Bill. After mercifully pinning Goldberg following a chokeslam, Undertaker looked around not so much angry at the performance, more disappointed, almost as if to say "what am I doing?".

Documentaries after the fact had the Deadman describe the match as being "close to catastrophic," and was considering retirement then and there.
