3. Triple H Turns On DX To Become A Corporation Member In 1999
Triple H wasn't always married the boss' daughter and he wasn't always a corporate stooge. His turn into that role was pretty awesome, though. Earlier we discussed Chyna's heel turn in January 1999. Two months later at WrestleMania 15, it looked Chyna was back with Hunter as part of Degeneration X after she helped him beat Kane. It turns out they were together, but not with DX. When Shane McMahon (member of The Corporation) was in a match with X-Pac of DX, Hunter was down at ringside. Chyna distracted the ref, which allowed Hunter to hit X-Pac with the Pedigree and he put Shane on top to win the match. It was Hunter turning on one of his buddies while betraying the babyface DX group at the same time. That was a huge move because at the time DX was the second most popular babyface act in WWE after Steve Austin, so Hunter doing that really changed things up. The big reason for the turn was because they needed Triple H to become one of the biggest heels in the company. Going against DX was a smart way to do it. The Rock ended up going babyface about a month later, so that set things up well for the future. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xb4kw3_triple-h-chyna-joins-the-corporatio_sport Hunter's heel turn worked well for him because five months after that he became the WWE Champion for the first time. It actually has a lot of similarities to the heel turn of Rollins because it was Rollins that turned on his babyface buddies just like Hunter did. Fans were really shocked by this turn. Looking back on it, the booking of it was brilliant.
