10 Times WWE Stars Were Scapegoats For Bad Booking

9. Dolph Ziggler

At one point, Dolph Ziggler was a major fan-favorite. He won the Money in the Bank briefcase in 2012, and thanks to his consistently-solid in-ring performances, fans were clamoring for the day that he'd finally cash in to win a well-deserved World Championship.

So, when Ziggler finally cashed in and won the Heavyweight Championship from Alberto Del Rio on the RAW after WrestleMania 29, the pop from the New Jersey crowd was deafening. Unfortunately, though, WWE never really saw Ziggler as a "top guy". So, after suffering a legitimate concussion en route to his first title defense at Extreme Rules, he returned to drop the belt back to Del Rio in a somewhat one-sided victory at Payback.

From there, it was all downhill.

Save for a few glimmers of hope (see: Survivor Series 2014), Ziggler was never really taken seriously again. He was booked to lose so frequently that the fans started to abandon their once sky-high hopes in him. After all, what was the point of rooting for him if he was just going to lose anyway?

Now, years later, fans are almost-entirely apathetic to the sound of his entrance music, a haunting contrast to the thunderous responses of yesteryear. What a shame.
