You'd be forgiven for not realising, given the way he was often presented when trying to make a name for himself within the Sports Entertainment sphere, but the one-time Jack Swagger is about as legitimate a combatant as they come.

On top of being an NCAA Division I amateur wrestler and All American, Jake Hager would go on to very much kick some ass within the cage down the road, signing with Bellator in 2017 and currently boasting a record of 3-0 (with one no contest).

Before he officially tested himself in the world of MMA, though, the then-Swagger floated the idea of shining a light on his legitimate abilities in the middle of a squared-circle to WWE at one point.

As the eventual AEW star would reveal on The MMA Hour, after years of being thrown into two-minute matches with performers he claimed "couldn't hold (his) jock", he pitched the concept of a shoot fight with a fighter of the company's choosing on their show.

Despite wanting to try "something different", WWE were having none of the shoot chaos, with the likes of the Brawl for All debacle likely sitting as a reminder of why legit fighting should probably be kept as far away from pro wrestling as possible.
