10 Times WWE SummerSlam Main Event Was Better Than WrestleMania Main Event

The era of John Cena was in full swing by 2006, as shown by the fact that he main evented both that year's WrestleMania and SummerSlam.

At 'Mania 22, Cena defended his WWE Championship against Triple H. It was neither man's best work and was nowhere near as good as the match Cena would have with Shawn Michaels the following year, but it was a decent closer to what was quite a middle-of-the-road WrestleMania.

By the time SummerSlam rolled around, Big Match John was in his hometown of Boston fighting one of his all-time great rivals, Edge.

The Rated-R Superstar had been causing problems for Cena all year and now the Doctor of Thuganomics had a chance for revenge on his rival in this WWE Championship encounter. Edge helped a still-developing Cena to one of his best matches to date, eventually retaining the title after some good old-fashioned cheating.

2006 wasn't the best year for Pay-Per-View main events, but between Cena vs. Trips and Cena vs. Edge, your best choice is option number two every time.
