10 Times WWE Tried (And Failed) To Swerve The Fans
2. Cena's Non Heel Turn
It's easy to dismiss John Cena's dreadful early-2012 feud with Kane as pointless, but don't forget: it was also stupid. It was pointless and stupid, like all of the worst things in wrestling.
The chief reason for this was that it felt from start to finish like a lazy, phoned-in WWE attempt at trying to tease fans that its franchise player was about to turn heel ahead of his date with The Rock at WrestleMania XXVIII.
Nobody really bought it. The time to turn Big Match John heel, if there ever was one, was probably a few years earlier at the height of the fan backlash - during the days where he could barely throw his hat into the crowd without getting it thrown straight back at him immediately.
Besides which, the idea that Kane of all people - a man who had been irrelevant for much of the last eight years - would be the one to expose Cena's bad side was almost laughable. Having a figure as larger than life as this turn on the people was surely only ever going to happen as a way to help a big-time up-and-comer - say Roman - get over.
