Ask a cross-section of 100 wrestling fans which iteration of The Undertaker they prefer, and roughly 101 will tell you the 'Deadman' was better.

It's not as though he didn't produce some solid matches as the 'American Badass', of course. His feuds with the likes of Brock Lesnar, Jeff Hardy, and John Cena were more than passable, and did a great service to their fledgling WWE careers.

But he didn't carry nearly the same aura as the man who walked to the ring to the sound of funeral bells in a trench coat and an open crown hat.

And, really, it's no coincidence that he returned to WrestleMania form when he emerged from the other side, in his original guise, after being buried alive by Kane in 2003.
