10 Times WWE Tried To Present Someone As A Credible Threat (And Failed Miserably)
6. Bobby Lashley
Bobby Lashley had a weird time during his first tenure inside of Vince McMahon's company.
He went undefeated for a stretch and even held the United States belt and ECW World title. His top accolade in this first run, however, was probably acting as Donald Trump's chosen champion in a Hair Vs Hair match at WrestleMania 23 and beating McMahon's hand picked star Umaga.
Lashley then left the company in 2008, with his last PPV match being against John Cena for the WWE Championship at The Great American Bash.
Yet, a couple of years away, some new found MMA legitimacy and an acclaimed run inside of TNA/Impact Wrestling paved the way for a return to WWE in 2018.
McMahon now had a genuine destroyer on his hands. Someone who could realistically pose a threat to Brock Lesnar. A star capable of matching Roman Reigns spear-for-spear.
So, what did they do?
Had him squash Sami Zayn in one of the worst feuds in modern wrestling history, had him flex his ass a lot, gave him a lacklustre Intercontinental title run and let him eventually draw a blank in a Last Man Standing war against Braun Strowman at Extreme Rules 2019 - which was admittedly excellent - before letting him return to WWE programming as Lana's new arm candy.
MMA badass to posing with his ass to acting like an ass with Lana.
Lashley re-announced himself as a human wrecking ball when he cropped up on the Raw after 'Mania 34, yet WWE inevitably completely fumbled what should have been a guaranteed money maker and they only have themselves to blame.
How the 'Almighty' have fallen.
