10 Times WWE Was Legitimately The Best Wrestling On The Planet
4. 1999
It all started when Mick Foley put some butts in the seats. 1999 as a year for WWF was sublime not so much for the actual in-ring action, but because of the characters and the angles. Austin had to battle opposition from both the Corporation, and the Ministry of Darkness, which eventually merged after one of the most Vince Russo moves of all time.
Stone Cold, The Rock, The Undertaker, and Mankind warred over the top title while Triple H also began emerging as a new top heel, severing himself from the goofy antics of DX. In the tag team division the high flying and death defying stylings of E&C and The Hardy Boyz stole the show with high octane stunt-fests. From the first week of 1999, WWF beat WCW and never looked back.
But pulling win after win week after week was too easy for WWF at that point. So WWF, knowing that they were the hottest thing on TV decided to give the fans more of what they wanted and started a new show called SmackDown. With the blue brand formed, fans got to enjoy even more of what they loved as some stars who couldn't get the time on Raw finally got their spotlight on SmackDown.
