Vince McMahon gave his consent, but obviously, Bret, still being WWF champion would have to drop the belt at some point before departing. Do to his ongoing beef with Shawn Michaels, Bret reportedly would not drop the title to him, The agreed upon course of events, was that the match at Survivor Series would end in disqualification, when Owen Hart, British Bulldog, Chyna and Triple H all interfere and start brawling. Bret then believed he'd drop the belt another day before his departure. Rumors had escalated leading many to know of The Hitman's departure, only heightening fan interest in the match.
