10 Times WWE Went Back On Big Decisions

8. Ric Flair Vs. Hulk Hogan

When Ric Flair was fired by WCW in the summer of 1991, it paved the way for a move to the WWF and a dream showdown with Hulk Hogan.

Initially, that meeting had indeed been the plan, with Flair’s billing as the "real" world's champion and Hogan’s possession of the WWF title putting the two on the collision course. But the more Flair was featured on television, the more he lost his aura as this mysterious outsider. Plus, the pair had been thrust straight into a house show programme and though it drew well at first, attendances slowly but surely declined.

By the time December rolled around, the rivalry seemed to be running its course and so Vince McMahon went back to the drawing board.

After Hogan was stripped of the title, Flair went on to win the belt in the ’92 Royal Rumble match and though he'd enter WrestleMania as champion, his challenger wasn’t Hogan. Flair faced Randy Savage while the former champ squared off with Sid Justice instead, despite heavy promotion of Flair vs. Hogan for WrestleMania VIII on the Feb. 8 showing of Saturday Night’s Main Event.
