7. Rikishi Ran Over Stone Cold

Technically, the company didn’t go back on itself with the reveal of who ran over Stone Cold. To this day, Rikishi remains the guy who supposedly took Austin out at the 1999 Survivor Series. However, the writers did appear to backtrack somewhat when they had Triple H take responsibility for being the mastermind behind it all.

Even though Rikishi had claimed he "did it for the Rock," four weeks later Triple H came forward and said he’d actually been the one giving the orders.

Granted, that about-turn may have been planned from the beginning, but it doesn’t seem particularly likely.

Rikishi’s big heel turn had hardly set the world alight, though that’s arguably because he was beaten in five minutes in the blow-off cage match versus Austin. Still, the addition of Triple H’s name to the mix felt more like less of a premeditated twist in the tale and more of an attempt to rescue an angle that was in danger of falling flat.
