10 Times WWE Were Forced Into A Money Match
7. CM Punk Vs. John Cena (Money In The Bank, 2011)
WWE was in a very stale state around mid-2011 and John Cena had just recently defended his WWE title against R-Truth at Capitol Punishment.
The leader of the 'Cenation' had conquered any and all comers during this limp period and nobody looked realistically capable of taking away his cherished signature title. That was until CM Punk was revealed as Cena's next challenger at Money in the Bank and the WWE landscape was flipped on its head with one little pipe bomb.
WWE knew that Punk would be leaving at the end of his contract - which expired at the PPV - but the fan support he garnered throughout this awesome programme forced the company into bending to his terms with a new contract backstage.
That contract was only signed on the night itself, so fans still fully believed that if Punk won the title he would be leaving that night as a free agent with the biggest prize in all of wrestling.
He would eventually escape with the title, to the joy of all in Chicago - only to return with it a few weeks later - but this mega money match would never have had the chance to go down in history if WWE weren't forced into very public contract negotiations with the 'Voice of the Voiceless'.
