10 Times WWE Were Right Not To Give The Fans What They Wanted
1. CM Punk WrestleMania Main Event
This one is guaranteed to rub a few people up the wrong way, but the numbers don't lie.
In 2013, CM Punk entered the year as the unofficial man of the company, recently becoming the longest reigning WWE Champion of the modern era by passing John Cena's 380-day run as the champ.
So, fans rightfully assumed that WWE must have had some epic plans in mind for the Voice of the Voiceless coming into WrestleMania 29 and firmly advocated him being gifted his long sought after main event on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
It soon became clear that Punk would have to wait another year to go on last at 'Mania, when he was beaten for the title by The Rock at the Royal Rumble and Cena outlasted 30 other men to win the titular match on the same night.
This set up WWE's epic show-ending clash and meant that Punk would receive a symbolic runner-up prize in the form of the sacred Undertaker match at the Show of Shows.
Though this screwing out of his dream by Vince McMahon would eventually lead to Punk's departure in 2014, the event set a new record for the highest grossing live event in the company's history with a total gross of $72 million.
It proved to be one of the final nails in Punk's WWE coffin, but you cannot argue with the financial results that proved Cena vs. Rock was the correct choice to go on last for the company.
