For most of us, fancy dress, or cosplay if we’re taking ourselves too seriously, is a chance to let off steam. We have a handful of occasions each year - Hallowe'en, the office party, etc. - when we can let down our hair, take off our ties and allow ourselves to look a bit silly. For a brief shining moment, we’re not just Dave from IT. We’re a zombie or Wonder Woman or maybe even our favourite wrestler.

We know that wrestlers already spend their days playing larger than life characters and walking around in brightly coloured spandex, so you might think they get plenty of opportunity to look quite silly enough. It follows logically that they wouldn’t feel quite the same urge that we do to play dress up.

Nonetheless, there are countless examples of wrestlers pulling on a(nother) costume. More specifically, wrestlers like to dress up as each other. Sometimes it’s an affectionate tribute, more often it’s to draw heat.

We’re not talking about Nic Cage and John Travolta In Face/Off here. The performances are usually hammy and the costumes often slapdash. In spite of the varying quality, they are are almost always wildly entertaining.
