1. Kurt Angle – Bestiality Sex (SmackDown, 12th May 2005)

Kurt Angle survived an ill-advised backstage interview with Josh Mathews, which would’ve destroyed the reputation of a lesser legend.

Mathews questioned Kurt about stalking Booker T’s wife Sharmell, causing her to injure her ankle while fleeing. He described Angle’s actions as “unbecoming of a WWE Superstar, a Former WWE Champion, and an Olympic gold medallist”. Kurt brushed off the concerns and blamed Sharmell for striking him.

Simmering with aggression Kurt promised he wasn’t going to hurt Sharmell, before breathlessly stating: “I don’t hurt women, I make them feel…good”. Kurt turned the conversation to vices and that his “just happens to be gutter sl*ts like Booker T’s wife”.

Angle further addressed Booker: “I want to have sex with your wife. And I’m not talking just any kind of sex with your wife. I’m talking that kind of bestiality sex with your wife. I want to have that kind of perverted sex.” The predatory nature of the promo was disturbing, and too great a divergence from Angle's milk-drinking all-American persona. The reference to “bestiality” was problematic beyond the pale.
