10 Times WWE Wrestlers Stole Spotlight In Defeat
5. Shawn Michaels (Vs. Hulk Hogan, SummerSlam 2005)
Shawn Michaels may well be the greatest professional wrestler of all time. Luminaries of the sport such as Stone Cold Steve Austin and Ric Flair have gone on record saying that HBK is the greatest in-ring performer in the history of the business, and his body of work makes it difficult to disagree. When the lights on, few were as good as The Heartbreak Kid.
Few were as good, but few were quite as childish as Michaels too. This was particularly true during his first run at the top, as HBK made the most of his status to hold others down and hound competitors out, all with the tacit approval of Vince McMahon. Michaels mellowed in later years, but his 2005 feud with Hulk Hogan saw that his schoolyard reputation rear its ugly head once again.
Hogan beat Michaels in the main event of SummerSlam 2005, but that is just about all that anyone remembers with regards to The Hulkster. Michaels made an absolute mockery of the match, bumping around the ring in a cartoon fashion that rendered the result meaningless. Hogan won, but all anyone could talk about was HBK and his preposterous selling.
