10 Times WWE Wrestlers Stole Spotlight In Defeat

When someone steals the spotlight in defeat, it often leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Wins and losses should matter, no? When a wrestler defeats another it should be the victor who gets the attention, the adulation, the spotlight. What good is putting someone over when they don’t get the shine?

The only good time to steal the spotlight in defeat is if you’re ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage, you’re retiring in defeat and are about to have a tear-jerking reunion with the love of your life. Savage’s theoretical career-ending defeat at WrestleMania VII was the miracle of miracles, as the Macho Man proved his greatness by dragging a legitimately fantastic match out of The Ultimate Warrior. That alone meant he was deserving of the post-match glow.

But the story was only beginning with Warrior’s boot on the chest of the Macho Man. ‘Sensational’ Sherri put the boots to the then-King, taking out her frustrations on her now-unemployed charge. It was all too much for Miss Elizabeth, a spectator until emotions took over, who charged to the ring and saved her man. Savage and Elizabeth then reunited in one of the all-time great WrestleMania moments. No, you’re crying.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
