Our fandom and admiration of Samoa Joe truly knows no bounds. A genuinely world class wrestler - and a totally credible World Champion in any true fans estimation, Samoa Joe has been overlooked by the WWE time and time again. The received wisdom held by the dirtsheets and the Internet is that WWE is aware of Joe, but that they dont consider him to have the look of a star. In truth, Joe, being somewhat generously proportioned, definitely has a physique thats closer to Dusty Rhodes than The Ultimate Warrior. He doesnt look like an identikit action figure, or a male model. Instead, Joes look is closer to a bouncer or street fighter and, as a result, he carries with him an air of legitimacy and danger that is missing from the present crop of WWE talent. On top of that, Joe is a phenomenal worker and a genuinely amazing wrestler. Despite his size, Joe is quick, sure-footed and surprisingly agile, with his moveset blending flying kicks and MMA style offence with a truly savage array of jujitsu-based holds and reversals. Joes fans include Stone Cold Steve Austin and former WWE VP of Talent Relations Jim JR Ross, amongst, well, everyone that watches TNA. However, that apparently isnt enough to make WWE booking sit up and take notice, which is a genuine shame, as Joe deserves a spot at the absolute top of the pile.
I am a professional author and lifelong comic books/pro wrestling fan. I also work as a journalist as well as writing comic books (I also draw), screenplays, stage plays, songs and prose fiction.
I don't generally read or reply to comments here on What Culture (too many trolls!), but if you follow my Twitter (@heyquicksilver), I'll talk to you all day long!
If you are interested in reading more of my stuff, you can find it on http://quicksilverstories.weebly.com/ (my personal site, which has other wrestling/comics/pop culture stuff on it).
I also write for FLiCK http://www.flickonline.co.uk/flicktion, which is the best place to read my fiction work.
Oh yeah - I'm about to become a Dad for the first time, so if my stuff seems more sentimental than usual - blame it on that!
Finally, I sincerely appreciate every single read I get. So if you're reading this, thank you, you've made me feel like Shakespeare for a day! (see what I mean?)
Latcho Drom,
