9. Rey Mysterio Keeps An Eye Out For Seth Rollins - 2020
When it came to gross WWE moments, the tale of Seth Rollins and Rey Mysterio over-delivered. In addition to scarring fans with the love story between Murphy and Aalyah, the tale attempted to take a vicious turn when 'The Monday Night Messiah' became obsessed with removing 'Rey-Rey's' eye.
After taking an interest in blinding Mysterio, Rollins and Murphy teamed up to face 'The Master of the 619' and Aleister Black on the 11 May 2020 edition of Raw. During the closing moments, 'The Monday Night Messiah' and his disciple battered Mysterio ringside until they reached the ring steps.
Shooing Murphy aside, Rollins pressed Mysterio's eye against the edge of a step until it bled. The viciousness helped the feud garner interest, but soon the same moment led to a hokey angle that promised more than it delivered.
The events led up to a literal 'Eye for an Eye' match during Extreme Rules. Although WWE had no intention of actually removing one of either man's eyes, that was what the company advertised. Knowing that the entire thing came off as ridiculous, the least WWE could have done was add a little of its production magic.
Instead, the absurd storyline ended (not really) with Mysterio holding a marble over his mask as he screamed. After what had nothing to do with his contract, WWE brushed the entire thing off by saying it was merely an optical nerve injury and Mysterio would soon regain full use of his eye.
