10 Totally Random Makeshift Tag Teams That Surprisingly Ruled
6. The Hollywood Blonds
Steve Austin walked into the WCW locker room in 1992 ready to start a run as United States Champion under the management of the legendary Harley Race. When he was told by high-flying fellow midcarder Brian Pillman that they needed to come up with a name for their new tag team, he was understandably miffed. No, Austin didn't want to team with Brian. It was a steep demotion, going from the spot that he had been offered/promised only a short time before. Originally billed as 'Stunning Steve and Flyin' Brian', the two were solid but unspectacular. When they started to get serious and realised that the team had potential, they became something great. Scotty 'Raven' Flamingo suggested the two work under the name 'The Hollywood Blonds' and they ran with it. After getting matching trunks, boots and ring jackets and travelling together, the two became a proper tag team and had some sensational matches with Ricky Steamboat & Shane Douglas and Ric Flair & Arn Anderson. The team split up after less than a year together. Austin has intimated that they were split up because they got over when they were 'supposed' to get other people over instead and that there was a lot of politics and jealousy behind the scenes. As short as their run was, it was certainly memorable and easily the best period in Austin's pre-Stone Cold wrestling career. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okYMcLlWGwQ
